Best Practices

Tips

  • Establish Consistent Naming Conventions Early: Before creating multiple styles, work with your team to establish clear naming conventions for style codes, descriptions, and categorisation. Consistent use of categories, brands, collections, and seasons makes it easier to search, filter, and organise your style library as it grows. This upfront planning saves significant time and prevents data inconsistencies that can complicate reporting and analysis later.

  • Complete Style Details Before Creating Costings: Ensure all style information, bill of materials, and technical specifications are complete and accurate before linking styles to costings or orders. Since style data serves as the foundation for costing calculations and order generation, incomplete or incorrect information can lead to inaccurate pricing and production issues. Review and verify all components, measurements, and specifications before proceeding to the costing stage.

  • Leverage Custom Fields for Business-Specific Information: Use custom fields to capture style attributes that are unique to your business but not covered by standard fields. This might include design inspiration sources, target markets, sustainability certifications, or internal quality ratings. Well-configured custom fields enhance searchability and enable more sophisticated filtering and reporting, making your style library more valuable as a business intelligence resource.

Avoid Spaces in Style Numbers

Style numbers should not contain spaces. Spaces in identifier fields can cause inconsistent search results and make filtering less reliable. Use a hyphen (-) or underscore (_) as a separator instead (e.g., STY-001 rather than STY 001).
