Style Import New Spec Templates

The Import Spec Template function lets you upload multiple new spec templates at once using a pre-formatted spreadsheet. This tool is accessed through the left-side navigation and is available only to users with the necessary permissions.

This feature makes it easy to create specification templates by allowing you to enter multiple templates at once through an Excel import. This is especially helpful for technical teams managing libraries of measurements across size scales. Imported templates will appear in Site Settings > Style > Spec Template for future use in style specification tabs.

Quick Check - Before You Start
  • Confirm you have create permission for spec templates and can open Import Spec Template from the Import menu.
  • In the import pop-up, select Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit of Measurement before downloading the Import Template.
  • If you use the How to Measure column, enable Include how to measure in the specification table under Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification so the column is recognised on import.
  • Ensure values such as Grade Type and other dropdown-style fields match valid options and Site Settings where applicable.

Steps to Import

  1. Click the Import icon in the left-side menu and select Import Spec Template from the dropdown.
  2. In the pop-up, select the following required fields:

    • Size Scale
    • Reference Size
    • Unit of Measurement
  3. Once selections are made, click the link to download the Import Template spreadsheet.

  4. Open the spreadsheet and fill in all required fields.

    Info

Make sure values like Grade Type match valid options and dropdown values align with Site Settings.

    How to Measure Column

The How to Measure column will only be included in the downloaded Import Spec Template when Include how to measure in the specification table is enabled in Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification. If this column is present in an imported template file but the setting is disabled, it will be ignored during import, preventing import errors.

  5. Return to the pop-up, upload the completed file, and click Next.

  6. Review the uploaded data in the Preview Window.
  7. Click Yes to confirm and begin the import process.
  8. After the import has been completed, download the Import Summary to confirm the result or troubleshoot issues.

Troubleshooting

The download link or template does not match what I expect—what is required first?

The system only generates the import file after Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit of Measurement are selected in the pop-up.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Open Import Spec Template and set all three required fields.
  2. Click the template download link again.
  3. Confirm the pre-filled columns in the spreadsheet match your selections.
Rows fail validation for Grade Type or other fields—what usually causes this?

Values must match the allowed options for the template (for example Single, Multiple, or Exact for Grade Type) and align with configuration implied by your size scale and unit selection.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Compare your spreadsheet to Spec Template Import Fields and Rules.
  2. Correct invalid values and re-upload.
  3. Review the Import Summary for the specific rejection reason on each row.
I filled the How to Measure column but nothing changed—why?

If Include how to measure in the specification table is disabled in Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification, that column is ignored during import even when present in the file.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Turn the setting on if your process requires How to Measure data, then download a fresh template if needed.
  2. Alternatively, remove or leave that column unused and rely on the fields that are active for import.
  3. Re-import and confirm results in the Import Summary.
