Style Update Existing Spec Templates

The Spec Template Import function also supports updating existing specification templates. This is useful for making bulk edits to measurement descriptions, tolerances, grading types, or reference values.

To update existing spec templates, you must use the same import template used for new spec template uploads. Before downloading the template, you need to select the Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit to ensure the system applies updates to the correct configuration.

Quick Check - Before You Start
  • Select the same Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit in the pop-up as the template you intend to update.
  • In the file, ensure Template Description, size scale fields, Reference Size, Unit, POM, and Measurement Description match an existing row so the system can identify the correct template lines.
  • Fill only the columns you want to change; leave other cells blank to keep current values.
  • If you rely on How to Measure, confirm Include how to measure in the specification table is enabled under Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification so the column is included and processed consistently.

Steps to Update

  1. In the import pop-up, select the relevant Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit.
  2. Click the download link to get the Spec Template Import Template.
  3. In the file, ensure that the Template Description, Size Scale fields, Reference Size, Unit, POM, and Measurement Description values exactly match an existing template. These are required for updates.
  4. Enter values only for the fields you want to update. Leave others blank to preserve current data.
  5. Upload the completed file using the same Import Spec Template pop-up.
  6. Review the data in the preview window and click Yes to apply the updates.
Partial Updates Only

Only fields that were filled in will be updated. Any blank fields will retain their original values in the system.

Note

  • Ensure that the Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit selected in the popup match those used in the original template.
  • Matching on Template Description, Size Scale fields, Reference Size, Unit, POM, and Measurement Description are required to successfully update a specific row.
  • The How to Measure column will only be included in the downloaded template when Include how to measure in the specification table is enabled in Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification. If this column is present in an imported template file but the setting is disabled, it will be ignored during import.
  • Download and review the Import Summary after upload to confirm which records were updated or skipped due to errors.

Troubleshooting

Specific rows were not updated—why would the import skip them?

Updates match on Template Description, size scale fields, Reference Size, Unit, POM, and Measurement Description. Any mismatch means the system cannot tie the spreadsheet row to an existing template line.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Export or open the template downloaded with the same Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit as the live template.
  2. Align the key columns exactly with the records in Site Settings > Style > Spec Template.
  3. Re-import and read the Import Summary for skipped or failed rows.
The popup selections do not match the file I edited—what goes wrong?

The downloaded template is generated for the Size Scale, Reference Size, and Unit chosen in the pop-up. Mismatched selections can produce the wrong pre-filled columns or cause updates to target the wrong configuration.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Re-select the correct trio of fields before downloading the template again.
  2. Copy your intended changes into the newly downloaded file without altering the pre-filled scale or unit identifiers unless you intend to.
  3. Upload from the same pop-up context and confirm outcomes in the Import Summary.
How to Measure data in my file seems ignored—is that expected?

When Include how to measure in the specification table is off in Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Specification, that column is ignored on import even if it is present in the spreadsheet.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Enable the setting if How to Measure should be stored, or remove reliance on that column.
  2. Download a fresh template after changing the setting if needed.
  3. Re-import and verify updates in the Import Summary and in Site Settings > Style > Spec Template.
