Style Definition
The Definition tab in the Style application allows users to assign fabric, trims, branding, and other components required to produce a style. This section supports both manual and library-based component selection, offering flexibility for different workflows.
The Definition tab features a configurable Components section, which includes all the essential components for a style:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Fabric | The primary textile materials used for the main body of the style. |
| Trim | Supplementary items such as zips, buttons, threads, and drawcords. |
| Branding | Logos, patches, and other elements that identify the brand. |
| Labels | Includes main labels, care labels, and size labels. |
| Details | Special design features or embellishments that are part of the style. |
| Make | Specific instructions or components related to the garment's construction and assembly. |
| Production | Components and instructions for the manufacturing process, including packaging and finishing. |
| Material | A broad category for any raw materials used in the style. |
| Packaging | All materials used for packing the finished garment, such as hangers, polybags, tissue paper, and shipping cartons. |
Admin Configuration Required
Go to Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Definition to add, enable, and disable the sections.
Quick Check - Before You Start
- Confirm the Definition sections you need (Fabric, Trim, Branding, and so on) are enabled in Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Definition.
- Decide whether you will add components manually, from the Component Library, or by copying from another style so you follow the right workflow.
Available Fields
The Component section includes the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Colourway | Specifies which product colour variant the component applies to. |
| Code | The unique identifier for the component, which links to the Component Library if it exists. |
| Image | A visual reference for the component. |
| Description | Detailed information about the component. |
| Label | A short, descriptive name for the component. |
| Placement | Instructions on where the component is located on the garment. |
| Colour | The specific colour of the component. |
| Tags | Keywords used for searching and filtering components. |
| Quantity (Qty) | The number of units required per garment. Decimal values are supported and preserved (e.g., 1.5, 2.75). Values are not automatically rounded up. |
| Source | Indicates where the component is sourced from (e.g., Factory, Internal, Component Supplier). |
How to Add Components
Components can be added in three ways:
Option 1: Add Manually
| Step | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Click the plus (+) icon. |
| 2 | From the Code dropdown, select Create new. |
| 3 | Fill in component fields by inline editing. |
Note
Manually added components will not be saved in the Component Library. As a result, the Component Number is not clickable.

Option 2: Add from Component Library
| Step | Description |

| 2 | Select the + Component Library option from the Code dropdown. |
| 3 | In the pop-up, optionally configure the Colourway, Source, Description, Placement, Tags, and Quantity. |

You can filter components by: • Status — Filter by Component > Status (e.g., Draft, Approved) to quickly locate components at different stages of their lifecycle. • Tags — Filter by Component > Colour Tags to find components based on their assigned colour-coded labels. |
| 5 | Customise the table view by adding the Tags column to see component colour tags directly in the list. |

| 7 | Click Add to go back to the Section view, or Save and Add to continue adding components. |
| 8 | The component will be linked, and its number will be clickable. |

Option 3: Copy Definition From Existing Style
This streamlines the creation of new styles by allowing you to duplicate the entire component definition from an existing style.
| Step | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Click the copy icon beside the plus (+) icon. |
| 2 | In the pop-up, search and select the style you wish to copy the definition from, then click Add. |
| 3 | An alert message will appear, allowing you to review your action before proceeding to overwrite the existing definition. |
Overwrite Existing Components
If components already exist in the Style Definition, a confirmation message will appear asking if you would like to overwrite the existing definition.
- Yes: Deletes all existing components and replaces them with the components from the selected style.
- Cancel: Cancels the copy action, leaving the current components untouched.
Example
-

Table Flexibility
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Drag & Drop | Reorder components within the section. |
| Sort by | Reorder entries in ascending or descending order. |
| Adjust Columns | Adjust the column width to your preference. |
| Filter | Select which Colourway to display in the section. |
Helpful Tips
- For components used across multiple styles, add them to the Component Library first. This maintains a single source of component details and avoids manual data entry errors. Edits to Component No., Description, Type, Composition, and Supplier in Component > Details flow through to this Definition tab and to specification documents for linked rows.
- Use the Copy Definition From Existing Style feature to quickly set up new styles that are variations of existing ones, saving significant time.
- When adding components, be sure to assign them to the correct Colourway to ensure your bill of materials is accurate for each product variant.

Troubleshooting
Why is the Component Number not clickable on my row?
Rows added manually are not linked to the Component Library, so the code behaves as plain text.
Steps to resolve:
- If you need a linked library record, remove the manual row and add the component using + Component Library from the Code dropdown.
- Alternatively, create the component in the library first (Create a Component), then add it from the library on the style.
I used Copy Definition From Existing Style and my components disappeared—can I undo that?
Choosing Yes on the overwrite confirmation deletes all existing definition rows and replaces them with the source style’s definition.
Steps to resolve:
- If you have not confirmed yet, click Cancel to keep the current definition.
- If you already confirmed Yes, re-add components manually, from the library, or run Copy Definition again from the correct source style.
A Fabric (or other) section I expect is missing from the Definition tab—where is it?
Visible sections are controlled in Site Settings, not per style.
Steps to resolve:
- Open Site Settings > Style > General Settings > Definition.
- Enable the section you need and save.
- Refresh the style Definition tab and confirm the section appears.
